Flights LX 293, 2804
Well, after my basically PERFECT safari vacation I figured that nothing could spoil my mood unless I got a flight crew experience like Turkish Airlines. Gratefully, the SWISS flight crew and product were leaps and bounds over Turkish but the food was not as good but not bad either.
I headed to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi very early because of all the changes due to the horrid fire last month that burned the international terminal completely to the ground! Instead of the usual 2 hour pre-arrival I did, 3 and it was totally unnecessary – at least with SWISS Air – cool point #1. The business class line seemed to be combined with first class and had only 1 couple and the economy was moving just fine.
The customs process was lickety split and I headed off to the temporary tent to await departure. One thing I did not like was the porta potties they had for the tents. I didn’t want to use them – who does – and waited till I boarded but would have gone before check-in had I known.
So boarding began and once on I immediately knew this Swiss crew was there to make our flight pleasant as opposed to getting us from point A to B. Smiles all the way around and graceful gestures with calming voices…ahhh…I could get use to this.
Next the lie-flat product test in business class. So I think Papa Bear would have loved this seat because it was ‘too hard’ but no need for huffing and puffing about it so I settled in for the flight to Zürich and guess what, unlike Turkish they came through the cabin with 3 options including Champagne.
The flight left a few minutes early and the meal service began. The starter was Salmon Salad with Couscous.
Good grief guys I gotta apologize, they got me so relaxed with smiles and wine that I didn’t get any more pics of the food but it was very good. The movie selection was very good as well, I watched The Great Gatsby.
During the layover in Zürich I headed to the lounge to grab a quick shower then headed out to discover the airport and all I gotta say is whoa.
This is a nice airport with great places to eat and relax and ‘duty-free shopping’! My head was swimming when I realized that Switzerland does not use the Euro so the exchange rate was better than I thought. I absolutely LOVE Sisley facial products and spotted them in the shops with get this, prices much much cheaper than in the states. Well, when I caught my breath I grabbed a couple of products and headed for the check-out. Please don’t get me started about all the chocolate shops – please.
The second flight was about 30mins over to Geneva and although short it departed on time with a great crew as well. Just wanna say Merci to the attendant that slipped me extra chocolate and a wink as I left the plane – how did she know…..(giggle).
